A tale of two campsites

Last night - between 7/7 and 8/7 -was ungood due to some idiots in the campground making a ruckus until midnight.  I am not going to say they were rotten drunk, but if they were sober I'd hate to see them when they were full.  There was also evidence on 8/7 that they had alcohol taken.
Three empty XXXX cans and an empty wine cask liner.  I mentioned this poor effort to the lady owner of the camp and she apologised, saying it was very unusual.  She also said that she had had another complaint.  So the camp is not to blame just the brain dead idiots involved,

On a more pleasant note here is a Straw-necked Ibis showing the straws in the dawn sunshine!
A couple of snaps from Towers Hill overlooking the town.

Looking a bit further here are some hills.
A small criticism is that it was bloody hard to turn the camper at the top of the hill.  A notice to that effect would be good.

Back in the main drag a NAIDOC week parade was happening.  I have obfuscated the faces to protect the kids.

An alley off the main street had a couple of murals, this one is from a school project.
An this seems to be a memorial to someone.
There is also a huge 'civic' mural covering the erly days of the town ...
.. of which this is an extract
As we left town Frances was intrigued by this truck load of cattle.
Through the day we saw many lines of Brahmans and Droughtmasters plodding away from water points.  We also just ddged 3 large roos jumping across the road and saw a dead dingo relativelky late in the piece.

In terms of driving the day was made interesting by several kilometers of three ply - a lane of bitumen with a lane of dirt on either side.  When passing or crossing drop a wheel in the dirt:  much easier when everything is dry!  Not as extreme as yesterday: 200kms from CT to Greenvale and then 220 to Mount Garnet.  No other towns seen.

As we neared Mt Garnet the termite mounds got redder and bigger.
 Pretty orange Grevilleas became frequent.
The readout of fuel consumption shows a pretty steady days driving.  Note the temperature: that is Centigrade not Fahrenheit!
The camp at Mount Garnet seens very peaceful.  Here is an arty view of dusk.
  • Bird of the Day: Red-winged Parrot wins, although Blue-winged Kookaburra at Mt Garnet comes close.
  • Vegetation of the day:  Grevillea beside the road.
  • Memorable moment: Contubual termitge mounds of changing colour.
  • Comment of the day:Nothing notable.
  • Pie of the day:  A pepper pie in Charters Towers was better than anything else I have had so far in Queensland.  Less liquid and the pepper was tasty.  Perhaps 6.5/10.
  • Troppo moment of the day.  The drunks at the fire were definitely troppo.
